"You really like Ruowen, right?" At this moment, there were only Qian Shaowen and Li Xin, who was doing rounds, in the ward. Qian Shaowen looked at Li Xin and asked. In fact, he had sent someone to investigate Li Xin's background long ago, so when Li Xin became his main doctor, he wasn't too surprised.

“It's not like, it's love." Li Xin looked back at Qian Shaowen and answered seriously. If it were just liking, she wouldn't have spent so much time and effort on Yan Ruowen, even setting aside her pride and enduring the pain.

"Aren't you supposed to dislike my existence?" Qian Shaowen raised an eyebrow and asked.

"I really dislike it; she treats you much better than she does me," Li Xin candidly stated, still harboring a strong aversion toward Qian Shaowen.

"That's because my health is poor. Many people tend to lean towards taking care of the weak," Qian Shaowen said with a faint smile, his tone carrying a hint of helplessness. As a man, he didn't enjoy being cared for like a patient.

If he could choose, he would prefer to be the strong one taking care of his wife.

"That's why I need to cure you. I don't want you to burden her for a lifetime," Li Xin said in a somewhat ruthless manner, completely disregarding the feelings of the listener.

"If I can't make it tomorrow, I hope you'll take good care of her. Over the years, she has endured a lot for my sake," Qian Shaowen spoke of Yan Ruowen with a gentle tone.

"Regardless of whether you make it tomorrow or not, she will be my woman in the future. I won't bother you worrying about her, and I will naturally treat her well," Li Xin said dismissively. It seems that Yan Ruowen didn't inform Qian Shaowen about the agreement between them. No matter, they can discuss it when this medicine jar comes out of the operating room.

Qian Shaowen furrowed his brows slightly. While he hoped for Yan Ruowen to have a new life after he passed away, he was still alive, and Li Xin's firm declaration of her rights made him feel uneasy.

Li Xin slept until dawn and still woke up at the usual time. She looked at herself in the mirror, meticulously tying up her wavy curls, and putting on a serious expression. This seriousness diminished the hint of charm at the corners of her eyes, giving her a more competent look. This appearance would probably reassure Yan Ruowen a lot. Although Yan Ruowen insisted on her performing the surgery on Qian Shaowen, there was still a trace of concern, even if unspoken.

Yan Ruowen, however, was even more anxious. She had a restless night, eagerly waiting for Li Xin to arrive at the hospital early in the morning. When Li Xin saw Yan Ruowen, she could tell that she had been waiting for her since early morning.

"You're here," Yan Ruowen mumbled. She wasn't sure what to say to Li Xin, fearing that she might add pressure. Unskilled in small talk, she settled for a greeting. Yan Ruowen then noticed that Li Xin had dressed more simply than usual, resembling a competent doctor. Despite the simple attire, Li Xin couldn't conceal the alluring charm around her eyes.

"You seem more nervous than me," Li Xin smiled at Yan Ruowen, guiding her into her office and offering a cup of hot tea.

"Did you not sleep well last night?" Li Xin asked with care.

"A bit," Yan Ruowen nodded. Li Xin's calm demeanor had a soothing effect on Yan Ruowen's anxiety.

"Prepare for the worst but hope for the best, as you said. Do what you can and accept the outcome," Li Xin shared her perspective, believing that mindset plays a crucial role in determining fate. Regardless of the complexity of the surgery, she aimed to keep herself from getting too anxious.

"Li Xin..." Yan Ruowen hesitated.

“Mm?" Li Xin raised an eyebrow.

“It's nothing." Yan Ruowen wasn't sure what she wanted to say to Li Xin; her emotions were complex.

Li Xin didn't mind Yan Ruowen's uncertainty, treating her like any other family member awaiting surgery.

"After the operation, will you have dinner with me?" Li Xin asked.

Yan Ruowen nodded.

Seeing Yan Ruowen's agreement, Li Xin's lips curled into a smile.

"I'll discuss and arrange some details with the other doctors now; they should be here soon," Li Xin checked the time.

"Go get busy." Yan Ruowen was about to leave, but Li Xin gave her a peck on the cheek before letting her go from her office.

Li Xin gave Yan Ruowen a smile before entering the operating room, and that smile lingered in Yan Ruowen's mind.

Yan Ruowen watched as the operating room door closed. The longest wait turned out to be outside the operating room.

Time passed slowly. The surgery lasted over four hours. When the lights in the operating room dimmed, Yan Ruowen stood up abruptly.

The first to come out was Li Xin, who had removed her mask, revealing her striking face. She smiled at Yan Ruowen, a smile that inexplicably reassured her. The tension that had persisted in her finally eased.

"How was the surgery?" The Qian family members rushed to ask.

"Dr. Li truly deserves to be the future star of the medical field. This surgery turned out to be even more successful than expected. As long as Mr. Qian takes some time to recuperate, his heart should be problem-free for the next few years. Though there's still asthma, with a bit of caution, he can lead a relatively normal life..." Dr. Zhang, who was part of the surgery, expressed excitement. Although he hadn't witnessed the surgery five years ago, being part of this one left him in awe. Despite Li Xin's beautiful appearance, she was far from being just a beauty vase.

Li Xin remained silent since coming out, leaving the Qian family and other doctors to discuss. Yan Ruowen also stayed quiet, just listening attentively. She genuinely felt happy for Qian Shaowen.

"Dr. Li, Dr. Liang has asked you and the other doctors to go to the conference room for a meeting after the surgery," a nurse informed the doctors suddenly.

Li Xin glanced at Yan Ruowen with a hint of ambiguity. Yan Ruowen, who was throwing her a grateful look, quickly averted her gaze. With many people around, Yan Ruowen had more concerns than Li Xin. Fortunately, everyone was focused on the surgery, preventing them from noticing the somewhat intimate exchange of glances.

"Let's go to the meeting." Actually, Li Xin didn't like it. After the lengthy surgery, she was already tired and didn't want to attend a boring meeting, but she had no choice.

Because there were too many people around, Li Xin and Yan Ruowen couldn't talk, but before leaving, Li Xin stopped when they passed each other. In a voice only Yan Ruowen could hear, Li Xin said, "You promised to have dinner with me tonight,  now you're allowed to go see Qian Shaowen." Li Xin didn't forget that after the surgery, this woman became hers. Thinking about it, Li Xin felt pleased, her mood exceptionally good, and she was particularly generous.

Only then did Yan Ruowen recover from the joy of Qian Shaowen's successful surgery, recalling her promise to Li Xin. Initially, when Shaowen hadn't undergone surgery, she had acted on impulse, solely focused on healing him. However, now she realized the consequences might be more complex. Nonetheless, a promise was a promise, and she intended to fulfill it. It's just that she needed some time to handle her current affairs.

A fortunate thing is that Yan Ruowen's perception of Li Xin has significantly improved, which is undoubtedly a positive development for Li Xin.
