After closing the door, the two of them walked toward the inside of the hospital room.

During that time, Ruan Yesheng’s eyes never left Xi Mo. Worry and joy mixed together as she looked Xi Mo up and down, front and back, like she was afraid even one hair might be missing. Her steps were full of excitement and happiness she couldn’t hide.

When she glanced at Xi Mo’s hand, her footsteps suddenly paused.

On Xi Mo’s hand was a small white bandage for pressing the vein after the needle was pulled out. Ever since she came in, she had been pressing it tightly with her hand and never let go.

Ruan Yesheng took one look and understood. Xi Mo had just pulled the needle out and immediately pressed it as she rushed out the door. The time on the way here was too short and wasn’t enough for the bleeding to stop.

Once upon a time, she always waited for her under the trees at university, even if many times, she couldn’t wait for her.

And now, she was willing to hurry just for her.

Even though she had just woken up from danger, she still rushed over to meet her.

Xi Mo stopped and also looked at Ruan Yesheng, saying, “Didn’t you already look long enough in the mirror before? Still not enough?”

“That kind of feeling is not the same as now.” Ruan Yesheng finally woke up like from a dream, and the dazed look on her face was replaced by a smile. “The you right now is the real you. It feels like I haven’t seen this you in so, so long, of course I have to take a good look.”

Her smile was bright and charming.

Xi Mo stared at her for a while and thought this smile really matched Ruan Yesheng’s natural looks.

Ruan Yesheng was born with a face that could hook people in. Her eyelashes were very long, and when she smiled, those long and thick lashes fluttered. Her eyes curved like a silver moon, and the tempting sweetness of the night swayed inside that moonlight, making people’s hearts itch.

This face of hers, matched this kind of smile perfectly.

“This way right now is better.” Xi Mo looked at Ruan Yesheng’s face and finally spoke.

Ruan Yesheng actually noticed the way Xi Mo was looking at her. That gaze was especially focused, like it was stuck to her face.

She rarely saw Xi Mo like this. Her heart couldn’t help but beat a few times faster, but she still teased her and said, “Are you praising my face?”

Who knew Xi Mo didn’t look cold at all.

Before, if she said something this full of self-love, Xi Mo would definitely rebuke her a few times. But now Xi Mo didn’t mind at all. She even allowed that kind of talk: “If you have to understand it that way, then sure.”

“Have to?” Ruan Yesheng blinked. “Then is there another way to understand it?”

Xi Mo didn’t bother being polite. She found a chair and sat down, saying, “You could also understand it as—being back in our own bodies like this—is a good thing.”

Ruan Yesheng walked over in front of her, her eyes still circling around her, even bending down to look at the skin on her neck. Her brows were full of joy: “It’s more than just good, it’s really great. I haven’t felt this relaxed in so long. I can finally be myself freely. Even though I like acting, if I have to act all the time, there’s no way it’s not tiring. Sometimes I was so scared, afraid people would notice something strange.”

But her joy didn’t feel fully relaxed. It had a little worry mixed in.

“You don’t look like you’re feeling free,” Xi Mo saw through her.

She knew, when Ruan Yesheng smiled, sometimes it really came from her heart. But sometimes it was just a soft mask to cover what she truly felt inside.

Ruan Yesheng was stunned.

“You've actually been nervous since the moment you opened the door and saw me,” Xi Mo said. “Are you worrying about how we changed back? If the process was dangerous? If we’ll switch again later? And how we should deal with it from now on?”

"Everything you said is right." Ruan Yesheng, after being seen through to the deepest part of her heart, actually felt like a weight had been lifted. She looked at Xi Mo a few more times, then finally sat down on the edge of the bed.

Her eyes landed on Xi Mo’s hand that was still pressing down: “But what I’m most worried about is your health right now.”

This time, it was Xi Mo’s turn to be stunned.

No wonder after coming in, Ruan Yesheng kept watching her, even checking her neck. After her seafood allergy, sometimes red marks would show up on her skin. Ruan Yesheng was checking if those signs had gone away.

“I’m fine.” Xi Mo’s voice softened. She tore off the little bandage that stopped the bleeding on her hand and tossed it into the trash can. “Even though my allergy was bad, it always comes fast and goes fast. It’s already under control now.”

As if to reassure Ruan Yesheng, Xi Mo rolled up the sleeve of her hospital gown a few times, showing part of her forearm right in front of Ruan Yesheng. “Look, I’m pretty much the same as usual now.”

Her forearm had a long and even shape, and her skin was white like fine jade.

Ruan Yesheng looked like she was under some kind of spell, staring straight at her forearm without blinking.

Xi Mo gave a light cough, then pulled the sleeve back down, hiding that fair skin.

The air turned a little awkward and quiet.

Ruan Yesheng’s cheeks felt a bit warm. She asked, just to find something to say, “When did you wake up?”

Xi Mo asked back, “You?”

Ruan Yesheng said, “Not long ago.”

“I also just woke up.”

Ruan Yesheng stood up again and poured a cup of warm water for Xi Mo. She said, “After I woke up, I wanted to call you. But I was afraid you were still asleep and didn’t want to wake you up. Gu Qisong told me you went into allergic shock and needed rest, so I thought I’d wait until you woke up to contact you.”

She said it so lightly, but only she knew how panicked she had been after waking up.

While she was unconscious, it felt like she had a long and painful dream, like someone had thrown her into a pot of boiling oil—it hurt so much, she felt like she was dying.

When she opened her eyes, she didn’t realize they had already switched back. She thought she was still having an allergic reaction.

During the past few months living as Xi Mo, she ate right, took good care of her skin, and used only the most high-end stuff. Everything she used, wore, or touched was fancy and top-quality. But it wasn’t because she felt at ease enjoying Xi Mo’s life after switching.

She had quit the spotlight for years, and she had already learned how to be patient and stay low-key. She didn’t care about living in luxury.

The only reason she lived so carefully was because she knew Xi Mo had always grown up pampered, used to the best of everything. So of course, she wanted to give Xi Mo’s body the best of everything too.

Not only did she keep Xi Mo’s face glowing and beautiful, she also paid attention to all the tiny details, always afraid she might hurt or damage something.

Now that she knew Xi Mo had an allergic reaction, it meant this body was going through pain. How could she not panic? And after she realized she had returned to her own body, she didn’t feel relieved. She got even more worried, afraid Xi Mo would still be suffering after they switched back. What scared her more was—what if the allergy was serious? Would it put Xi Mo’s life in danger?

Before she fainted, even though her mind was blurry, she still felt Xi Mo’s body was in critical condition.

So when she woke up, there were some thoughts she didn’t even dare to imagine. All she wanted was to confirm Xi Mo’s condition as soon as possible.

At that time, she was shaking all over trying to find her phone.

If Gu Qisong hadn’t told her right then that Xi Mo was out of danger and resting peacefully, she probably would’ve lost her mind.

“You…” Xi Mo thought for a bit, then asked in a soft voice, “Did you cry before you picked up my call?”

Ruan Yesheng: “…”

“No,” Ruan Yesheng stared at the floor, rarely acting a bit embarrassed. “Switching back is something to celebrate. Why would I cry? I’m not crazy.”

“Your eyes looked a little red,” Xi Mo said seriously. “And when I called you, you didn’t pick up right away. Your voice sounded shaky. You said you were washing your face, so you couldn’t answer in time.”

Ruan Yesheng kept her head down.

Xi Mo asked her, “Did you cry, then go wash your face?”

Ruan Yesheng stayed quiet.

But her shoulders started to tremble.

Like all the worry and fear she’d bottled up since waking had finally reached the breaking point.

When Ruan Yesheng lifted her face, her eyes were already full of tears. They hadn’t fallen yet, just spinning around in her eyes, soaking her long eyelashes until they were all wet.

This face—when she smiled, it was so charming. But when she cries, it makes one’s heart hurt.

Xi Mo looked at her, and her face tightened right away.

Ruan Yesheng laughed and cried at the same time. She half-pouted, half-complained, “You stupid wood, you’re so annoying! Even now you're still doing your logic deduction. Fine, I admit it, I cried! You’re good at logic, you're good at observing, you figured out I cried and even went to wash my face. You feel real proud now, right? You’re so amazing, then why don’t you go ride a rocket to the moon and say hi to the astronauts while you're at it?”

Xi Mo: “…”

She hadn’t been scolded like this by Ruan Yesheng in so long. It was like a bunch of arrows got shot into her chest by Ruan Yesheng, making her heart ache. She asked carefully, “You… really think I’m annoying?”

Ruan Yesheng was stunned.

Seriously, this block of wood can’t take a hint. She was clearly being sweet, and this wood still focused on the word “annoying.”

She might as well get mad to death now.

Ruan Yesheng wiped her tears and thought, of all the people to like, why did it have to be a wood? But the next second, she thought again—it’s still the wood that’s the best.

She just liked this wood.

Even if the wood didn’t like her, sometimes it’d make her sad.

But she still wanted to like the wood for her whole life.

Xi Mo looked at the tears on Ruan Yesheng’s lashes. She stood up, walked to the edge of the bed, and lowered her head.

Ruan Yesheng felt her coming closer and looked up, not knowing what she meant to do. But the way Xi Mo looked at her made the blood in her chest rush and burn. “...What are you doing?”

“Last time, you said you missed your mom and ended up crying,” Xi Mo said seriously. “I hugged you, and then you stopped crying.”

Ruan Yesheng finally realized what she was talking about. She was surprised, and her heart was beating so loud it lost its rhythm.

Xi Mo’s arms hung down. Her hand moved slightly, and she asked, “You’re crying now too. Do you need me to hug and comfort you?”

Ruan Yesheng: “…”

She thought she misheard. After thinking it through, she confirmed that Xi Mo really said “hug” and “comfort.” Her heart went all over the place—part mad, part sweet. She really couldn’t understand what kind of wood this was, actually asking her directly if she wanted a hug and comfort, and saying it so properly.

What made it worse was, after being asked like that, her heart started thumping wildly and couldn’t slow down at all.

“Yes,” Ruan Yesheng answered her, and she said it loud and proud.

Xi Mo walked up to her, reached out her arms, and gently pulled her into a hug, holding her softly in front of her.

And just like last time, Xi Mo didn’t forget to pat her back in rhythm, matching the comfort with soft beats.

Ruan Yesheng sat on the bed, hugging Xi Mo’s slim waist. Her eyes curved as she smiled, but there was still a sting in it, and her eyes turned red again.

She couldn’t tell if she was crying from the earlier panic over Xi Mo, or from the joy of getting their bodies back, or just being moved by Xi Mo’s hug. All she knew was that all the feelings she had were packed full inside her chest. And now, inside Xi Mo’s arms, they came pouring out with no holding back.

She couldn’t help but lean closer into Xi Mo’s hug.

“Don’t cry,” Xi Mo said softly, feeling her move, as she patted her back.

“I’m not crying,” Ruan Yesheng smiled this time and wiped her tears on Xi Mo’s hospital gown. “Then… can you hug me a little longer?”

“How long do you want?”

“I don’t know.”

Anyway, Ruan Yesheng just kept hugging her and didn’t want to let go. Maybe it was because this kind of hug made her feel comfortable and safe. She said, “When we switched back, I didn’t feel used to it at all. But now I think I’m starting to get used to it. Last time you hugged me to comfort me, it was using my body. So it kind of felt like I was hugging myself. Now it’s different. Now it’s really you hugging me.”

Xi Mo gave her a quiet reply, “I think I’m more used to it now than when I first woke up.”

Ruan Yesheng copied her tone and said like she was analyzing it, “Maybe it’s because of the hug. Hugging each other in our own bodies helps raise the personal adaptation level. Makes it easier to get used to using our real bodies again. Bit by bit, we’ll get used to it.”

“That’s possible,” Xi Mo said, and a soft smile appeared at the corner of her lips.

“Then… to speed things up, how about we hug more from now on?”

Xi Mo: “…”

Ruan Yesheng hugged her tight, grinning from ear to ear.

It felt really good.

She really liked this feeling.

She really liked switching back.

She really liked… this block of wood.

Author’s Note:

Serious face. Let me try this too.

One, two, three, let’s go:

You have to rate, have to comment, have to show love, have to give hugs—

Or else I’ll pout and say “Hmph!”

Sigh… total fail. This kind of sweet-talk trick? Only Ruanruan can pull it off. I’m way too weak for this[
