Ruan Yesheng slowly put on her pajamas, then pulled the quilt over, flattening it, and patted the empty spot on the sheet beside her. She peeked at Xi Mo: “Come here, time to sleep.”

Xi Mo seemed stiff, not moving at all.

Ruan Yesheng smiled and asked: “You don’t like this side? Then should I switch places with you?”

As she spoke, she was about to move her body.

Xi Mo quickly said: “...No need to switch. Just close your eyes.”

Ruan Yesheng understood she was changing clothes, so she obediently shut her eyes.

She only heard the rustle of fabric in her ears. Leaning against the headboard, just hearing those faint sounds made her feel a strange heat in her heart.

After a while, she felt the mattress sink a little, as if bearing another person’s weight, and then Xi Mo’s voice came from beside her: “You can open your eyes.”

Ruan Yesheng slowly opened her eyes, her gaze landing on Xi Mo.

Xi Mo had already lifted the quilt and sat inside, her body upright and proper, staring straight ahead, not looking at her.

“You’re going to sleep sitting like that?” Ruan Yesheng said after staring at her for a while.

Only then did Xi Mo glance at Ruan Yesheng, her body slowly sliding down, lying into the quilt.

And she lay flat in that same upright, serious way, face to the ceiling.

Ruan Yesheng set an alarm to wake early, put her phone on the bedside table, leaned over to switch off the light, then quickly lay down too.

The room sank into darkness. The sudden silence made each other’s breathing seem so clear, along with the heartbeat. The breaths grew deeper, the heartbeats quicker.

Between the two was a small gap. The gap was subtle, carrying both a little testing and a careful meaning. If either leaned just a bit closer, the gap would vanish in an instant.

Xi Mo didn’t move.

Ruan Yesheng felt she was lying too stiff, and whispered: “Why do you seem a little nervous? Are you not used to it? It’s not like we haven’t slept together before.”

Xi Mo: “...”

“Slept in the same bed,” Xi Mo couldn’t help but correct her: “...not slept together.”

“Is there a difference?” Ruan Yesheng laughed.

“A very big difference.”

“Then should I say it again?” Ruan Yesheng actually went along: “It’s not like we haven’t laid in the same bed before. Back in the Sui Ting crew hotel, it even rained at night, we shared the same bed and pillow, and you forgot so fast?”

...That wording ‘shared the same bed and pillow’ was also ridiculous.

Xi Mo seemed to let out a faint sigh. This time she didn’t correct Ruan Yesheng again, as if with a kind of helpless resignation. Let Ruan Yesheng say what she wanted, it wasn’t like she’d lose a piece of flesh anyway.

“I haven’t forgotten.” Xi Mo spoke softly. “Don’t talk anymore. You have to get up in a few hours.”

“Okay.” Ruan Yesheng felt the concern for her sleep in Xi Mo’s words. In the dark she hooked her lips, satisfied, and shut her eyes. “Good night.”

“Good night.” Xi Mo’s voice wound so warmly into her ear.

Ruan Yesheng was quiet for a moment, then shifted closer to Xi Mo, closing the gap between them. She could even touch Xi Mo’s pajamas, and murmured: “Xi Mo, are you cold?”

“I’m not.” Xi Mo answered calmly.

“But I feel so cold.” The quilt was clearly warm, yet Ruan Yesheng insisted she was cold, even curling herself up a little pitifully, her long legs bent, knees pressing against Xi Mo’s leg.

Xi Mo heard that and at once turned over, from lying flat to lying on her side, finally facing Ruan Yesheng.

Ruan Yesheng felt her hand reaching over, almost to the hollow of her neck, and instantly held her breath.

But Xi Mo only reached out to lift the quilt at her shoulder and neck, carefully tucking it in. She even pressed the edge on Ruan Yesheng’s side inward, nearly wrapping her tight like a white sugar dumpling, and Ruan Yesheng inside was that soft, translucent sticky rice.

“...Now you’re not cold.” Xi Mo tucked her in and lay flat again.

Ruan Yesheng: “...”

“It’s still cold.” Ruan Yesheng said from inside the quilt.

This time Xi Mo carefully lifted the quilt, turned on the light, got out of bed, and walked to the wardrobe. On the top space of the wardrobe were stored quilts and thin blankets. Xi Mo took down a thin blanket, weighed it in her hands, felt it was just right, and carried it to Ruan Yesheng’s side of the bed, laying it neatly over her quilt.

“Now you definitely won’t be cold.” Xi Mo lowered her head, looking at Ruan Yesheng.

Ruan Yesheng: “...”

She had only used the excuse of being cold to make Xi Mo hold her, but she didn’t expect Xi Mo not to fall for it at all. She was stunned by this whole series of actions. Even though her goal wasn’t met, she still felt happy.

It was like she felt a special kind of care from Xi Mo.

So this is the care of the universe's straight girl?

Ruan Yesheng found it funny herself. After Xi Mo turned the light off and lay down again, she didn’t say anything more, closed her eyes, and her breathing slowly became steady and long.

With Xi Mo beside her, she thought she would have a sweet and peaceful sleep.

The feeling in the quilt was too comfortable. As she slept, Ruan Yesheng felt like she was sinking into the clouds. The clouds wrapped her like cotton candy, light and soft, carrying a faint sweet scent. In her subconscious she reached out, stroking the cotton candy, thinking she would feel fluff, but instead she felt smooth and warm skin.

At her ear came the urging sound of the alarm.

Her sweet dream scattered at once in the alarm’s noise. She suddenly opened her eyes. Afraid it would wake Xi Mo, she quickly tried to reach out of the quilt to turn off her phone. But she was held tight by a soft body, unable to move at all.

Her waist was circled from behind by Xi Mo. Xi Mo’s hand rested on her stomach. The skin she had touched in her half-dream before was actually Xi Mo’s arm.

When Xi Mo slept, the cuff of her pajama top had bunched upward, showing a section of her forearm. And Ruan Yesheng’s hand was resting right on it.

Xi Mo’s bare feet were also pressed tight against Ruan Yesheng’s, wrapping her feet as if afraid she was cold, warming them.

Xi Mo was still asleep.

Ruan Yesheng realized she was being held from behind. Her heartbeat, lazy and slow from waking, sped up bit by bit until it pounded loudly in her ears.

Her heart was like thunder, almost drowning out the noisy ringtone.

She forgot to turn off the alarm for a moment. With that sound, Xi Mo woke up.

At first Xi Mo was still dazed from sleep. When her eyes refocused and she found herself holding Ruan Yesheng so tightly from behind, even pressing her feet on top of hers, she was startled. She quickly pulled back her hands and feet, putting distance between them.

Ruan Yesheng’s heart was still racing. She hurried to turn off the alarm.

It was only after five, the sky still dark, the room no different from night.

Xi Mo kept her eyes open, her hands folded on herself, staring at the black ceiling.

Ruan Yesheng turned on the small dim light and saw Xi Mo lying so properly, then compared it with how she had just been holding her with such soft closeness, and couldn’t help but find it funny.

“...What time is it?” Xi Mo asked softly, as if nothing had happened.

“5:20.” Ruan Yesheng lingered in the feeling of lying with Xi Mo, but she knew the importance of this show recording. She sensibly sat up and changed clothes on the bed. “I have to leave soon. If the crew finds I’m not in bed, it won’t look good.”

Xi Mo also got up, changing with her back to Ruan Yesheng. “I’ll walk you there.”

“It’s still early. You don’t have anything today, so sleep some more.” Ruan Yesheng said. “And morning isn’t like before dawn. Some townspeople will be up early. It’s inconvenient.”

"Then I'll walk you to the gate." Xi Mo still insisted.

"Okay." Ruan Yesheng turned her back while putting on clothes, her face showed a smile.

They went downstairs and came into the yard. Baolai had a warm dog house in the yard. It felt Ruan Yesheng and Xi Mo come out, so it woke up at once, lifted its head to look at them, then kept lying down.

Ruan Yesheng even greeted it. "Baolai, good morning."

In the dark, only Baolai’s blurry shadow could be seen. It lifted its head again, like it was staring at Ruan Yesheng.

It was still very dark outside. Ruan Yesheng used her phone light, waved goodbye to Xi Mo at the gate.

"...I'm leaving." Ruan Yesheng looked at Xi Mo, reluctant to part.

It felt like the first wedding night had just finished. She hadn't tasted enough yet, but busy work already called her away on a business trip.

"Okay." Xi Mo nodded. "Be careful on the road."

Ruan Yesheng didn't dare delay, she turned and left quickly.

Xi Mo stood and watched for a long time. She kept looking until Ruan Yesheng's figure passed the path and couldn't be seen anymore. Then she closed the gate well and went back to the room.

On the bed still lay Ruan Yesheng's pajamas she had just changed out of. They left in a hurry, so the bed was still messy. Xi Mo’s sleepiness is gone, she began tidying the quilt and cleaning up.

When she picked up the pajamas Ruan Yesheng had worn, she looked at it for a while, then reached out and lifted it, and without thinking she brought it under her nose to sniff.

It was her own pajamas.

After being worn by Ruan Yesheng, it still seemed to have her warmth and scent.

Xi Mo only sniffed once, then it felt like thunder hit her head. She woke up at once, scared, and threw the pajamas on the bed fast.

What is she doing?

Is she sick?

Xi Mo seemed quite frightened. She only managed to finish tidying up the bed after a long while. She took the pajamas she and Ruan Yesheng had worn out to wash, then put them in the dryer. After all, Ruan Yesheng said she would come again tonight, so she had to get ready.

Ruan Yesheng went back to the house where the show was filming. She used the key to open the door and shut it carefully. Luckily, the crew were still asleep and the cameras were all off. She tiptoed upstairs to her own room, messed up her quilt a little on purpose, ruffled her messy long hair, changed into her pajamas, and lay down.

But this time she couldn't fall asleep at all.

Her head was full of the feeling from when Xi Mo held her.

Ruan Yesheng kept thinking, kept savoring, and sometimes she even buried her face in the pillow and laughed out loud. She felt like she was almost going crazy. Luckily, the cameras in her room were off. If anyone saw her weird reactions, they would overthink it for sure.

Around seven, a staff member knocked politely on the door: "Sister Ruanruan, are you awake? It's about time to turn on the cameras in your room."

"I'm awake," Ruan Yesheng answered quickly. "I'll turn them on right away."

To protect guests' privacy, the cameras in the rooms were only turned on or off by the guests themselves. No one would film without permission.

Ruan Yesheng, still in her pajamas, turned on the camera, then lay back down. Later, the editing team would cut and reorganize these clips.

She dragged until a little past seven, then finally got up to brush her teeth, wash up, and get ready. When she came out, Shen Qingbie was also up and heating milk in the kitchen.

The cameras in the house were already all on, recording the guests' activities. There were also cameramen filming close-ups.

"Ruanruan, you're up?" Shen Qingbie turned her head and saw her, then quickly asked, "Do you want me to heat a cup for you too?"

"Yes, thank you." Ruan Yesheng smiled cheerfully.

"Why do you look so happy?" Shen Qingbie asked curiously. "Did you have a good dream?"

"A truly wonderful dream." Ruan Yesheng walked over to her side. "Let me make breakfast. Did you check the refrigerator yet? What's inside?"
