"How is my husband?" asked Yan Rouwen nervously.

"He won't die immediately, but if he comes in again next time, I can't guarantee," Li Xin said calmly. She knew before that Qian Shaowen's health was not good, but she didn't expect it to be so poor. Currently, Qian Shaowen's physical condition is not optimistic.

"Is surgery not an option?" Yan Ruowen persistently asked.

"In fact, Mr. Qian's physical condition is very poor, surgery is not advisable. Even if we consider surgery, the success rate is very low. Generally, we wouldn't recommend it. However, I remember that Dr. Li successfully performed a similar and impressive surgery a few years ago for a patient with a comparable condition. Perhaps, if Dr. Li performs the surgery for Mr. Qian, the chances of success would be higher. Some…" Dr. Zhang explained.

"Is it Dr. Li Yuandong?" Yan Ruowen didn't immediately connect Dr. Li with Li Xin, instead associating him with the highly authoritative surgeon in the hospital, Dr. Li Yuandong, who also happened to be Li Xin's father.

"Hehe, not Director Li, but Director Li's daughter, the beautiful doctor right in front of us." Dr. Zhang chuckled and remarked, "Since Dr. Li Xin returned to the hospital, there's been a lot of lively atmosphere among male doctors and patients."

Yan Ruowen was truly stunned again; she never expected Li Xin to be the daughter of Li Yuandong. Moreover, the female doctor before her was indeed the Li Xin she knew. Yan Ruowen had to reassess Li Xin—her once scattered wavy hair now tied up, lighter on makeup, wearing a white coat, completely different from the previous Li Xin. However, the enchanting charm in her eyes still lingered, reminding Yan Ruowen that she was indeed the same person.

In those years, Li Xin relied on her own abilities and her father's position as the Deputy Director to establish herself. Shortly after graduating, she could already stand on her own, independently completing numerous challenging surgeries. Those surgeries, which could be considered exemplary materials for the medical school, showcased Li Xin's talents. Unfortunately, just when the industry had high expectations for her, this rising star suddenly disappeared from the medical world. Now, with her father transitioning from Deputy Director to Director, and Li Xin returning to the position of attending physician, it has not been without controversy. However, her recent surgeries have silenced the critics, proving that Li Xin is indeed a genius.

Li Xin has been exposed to medicine since childhood. In primary school, while other kids were reading fairy tales, her father would show her anatomical charts. In middle school, he had her dissect various animals, and during high school, her father, Li Yuandong, often took her to observe surgeries. Li Xin felt that growing up with exposure to these bloody scenes made it quite challenging to become a healthy child, and her later choices, such as becoming involved with Yan Ruowen, might be rooted in a rebellious attitude against her father's early education.

Li Yuandong, despite his humble background, worked hard in his early years and gained fame relatively early. He has become a prominent figure in the medical field and is also a significant shareholder in the hospital. With both fame and fortune, he holds high expectations for his three children. His eldest daughter, Li Xin, is the most talented and receives special attention. However, Li Yuandong can't fathom why his daughter, whom he had the highest hopes for, came home one day to declare that she liked women. Not only that, she insisted on becoming a lover rather than pursuing a career as a doctor. This revelation angered Li Yuandong to the point of nearly causing a stroke, and he expelled his daughter, tarnishing the family's reputation. Li Xin disappeared for a full five years, leaving Li Yuandong to sigh at the waste of her exceptional medical talent.

"Dr. Zhang, I haven't wielded a scalpel in several years, and I've become somewhat rusty. I can handle minor surgeries, but when it comes to major procedures, I'm at a loss. Madame Qian can indeed consider consulting my father and see if he can be of assistance." Li Xin said with a slight smile, though her emphasis on the title "Madame Qian" carried a certain weight.

Naturally, Yan Ruowen would not listen to Dr. Zhang alone and rashly let Li Xin perform surgery.

"Is Director Li here? I want to see him.” Yan Ruowen asked Dr. Zhang.

Seeing this, Li Xin dismissively turned away and proceeded to check on other patients in different wards. Her father is getting older and contemplating retirement and tends to be conservative in his thinking. He disliked low-probability surgeries, and the more he disliked them, the less willing he was to perform them.

….

"Dr. Li, I want you to operate on my husband," Yan Ruowen said directly to Li Yuandong. In fact, Li Yuandong, being the most senior and authoritative surgeon now, rarely performed surgeries himself. Since Li Xin's return, he had groomed her to take over, and he was planning to retire and travel the world with his wife.

Li Yuandong looked thoughtfully at Yan Ruowen before speaking.

"In fact, I don't recommend surgery because the success rate is too low," Li Yuandong explained. Qian Shaowen was a frequent visitor to their hospital, so Li Yuandong was well-acquainted with his health.

"What's the probability?" Yan Ruowen had consulted many doctors before, and most of them discouraged surgery. However, with Qian Shaowen's deteriorating health, she felt the need to take a chance on the low-probability surgery rather than letting him wait for death.

"Less than ten percent." Qian Shaowen's current health condition wasn't suitable for major surgery, and he didn't want to risk being the cause of a patient's death when he was so close to retirement.

"Are there any successful cases?" Yan Ruowen was persistent; as long as there was a glimmer of hope, she wouldn't give up.

"In China, such cases are not common. My daughter, Li Xin, had a successful surgery a few years ago. Although luck played a part, to be honest, her success rate wielding the scalpel is higher than mine by two or three percent. She's a rare talent, and I'm not exaggerating." Li Yuandong spoke earnestly about Li Xin's exceptional abilities, making it clear why he would consider her for the surgery.

“Her?" Yan Rouwen suddenly felt the world was too absurd. The woman who always seemed shallow, obsessed with dressing herself extravagantly, was now being told that she could be Yan Rouwen's savior. It made Yan Rouwen question whether the world had become distorted or something.

"There are many talented individuals. Perhaps there's a more suitable doctor for this case." Li Yuandong implied his reluctance to take on the surgery for Qian Shaowen.

Given his status and position, Li Yuandong undoubtedly spoke with authenticity and credibility. Yan Rouwen was ready to find Li Xin. Clearly, that woman was no longer someone who would unconditionally yield to her.

"Do you know my daughter?" Li Yuandong actually wanted to ask ‘Has my daughter been acting as your mistress all these years?’ but he couldn't bring himself to say it. Li Xin and Yan Rouwen caused quite a stir, and Li Yuandong had heard a bit about it. Even though his daughter was rebellious, as a father, he still wanted to know how she had been these years.

Yan Rouwen's body stiffened slightly, pretending not to have heard Li Yuandong's words, and continued to walk away. This was indeed an extremely embarrassing relationship.

After leaving Li Yuandong's office, Yan Rouwen walked along the hospital corridor. She saw Li Xin coming out of a patient's room after completing her rounds. Face to face, for the first time, Yan Rouwen felt Li Xin was a stranger – as if someone she had never known, and she had never taken the time to understand.

The two approached each other face to face. Li Xin noticed that Yan Rouwen's complexion wasn't great – a mix of worry, fatigue, and concern. This woman had always been a workaholic, not knowing how to take care of herself. Li Xin felt a slight twitch in her heart, a bit of pain. She couldn't remain completely indifferent when facing this woman. However, Li Xin prepared herself to pass by Yan Rouwen with a feigned indifference.

"Li Xin!" Yan Ruowen called out to Li Xin.

Li Xin halted, "What brings Madame Qian here?" she asked with a hint of sarcasm.

"How confident are you in performing his surgery if you were to do it?" Yan Rouwen inquired.

"Maybe 40 to 50%,” Li Xin replied casually. She seemed quite indifferent.

"Can you help him with the surgery?" Yan Rouwen asked, observing Li Xin's nonchalant attitude.

"I cannot!" Li Xin firmly refused. Performing surgery for her love rival? Her heart wasn't that forgiving. "You think, after you abandoned me, I'd willingly operate on your man? Madame Qian, I'm powerless when it comes to your husband's health," Li Xin said with a cynical smile, ready to leave. She was waiting for the bait to be taken.

"I'm open to any conditions; I can fulfill whatever you want," Yan Rouwen called out softly to Li Xin's retreating figure.

"Any conditions?" Li Xin paused again, and a slight smile played on her lips.

"Only if you state the conditions, I can fulfill them for you." Yan Rouwen repeated earnestly.

"Can you truly make any sacrifice for Qian Shaowen?" Li Xin asked, her heart sour.

Yan Rouwen nodded, acknowledging that without Qian Shaowen, she wouldn't be the person she is now. Everything she did for him was a rightful duty.

Seeing Yan Rouwen nod, Li Xin felt angry. Why was Yan Rouwen willing to go all out for Qian Shaowen while treating her so heartlessly? She felt insignificant and couldn't help but become upset.

"That's fine. I can perform surgery on Qian Shaowen, but I want you to divorce him, become my mistress, and hold a press conference to announce to the world that you and I have a relationship. How about that?" Li Xin raised her eyebrows, asking Yan Rouwen with a sly smile.
